Hyde United produced a classic FA Cup upset defeating higher league opposition Darlington 1-0 at the Project Solar Stadium thanks to Jack Redshaw goal 10 minutes from time. Both sides came into the game on identical form, with 6 wins in a row in all competitions.

Darlington started the game on the front foot and could have found themselves ahead in the 1st minute. A corner was headed down by towering striker Mark Beck, which was saved by Gio Bellagambi, and then Purver but the follow up over the bar.

New Hyde signing Mampala had a promising debut in the first half with a few chances of his own, however they were no match for Taylor in the Darlington goal.

Liam Tongue had the best chance of the first half, the ball fell to him just outside the area but the attempt was saved well by Taylor.

Hyde thought they would have had the game won on 74 minutes, when Eddie Brown was played through on goal but the referee blew for a foul against Brown on Wheater, who was a fair few yards away, as he went down injured.

The anger soon turned to jubilation when Callum Spooner produced a superb ball to split open the Darlington defence and find Redshaw who finished into the top corner to seal the win. The tiger’s one-step away from the first Round – and will face Buxton away on Saturday 15th October for a place.
