Marine secured their place in the Fourth Qualifying Round after a 2-0 victory against divisional rivals Hyde United.
The first half started a typical cup affair, nervy and tense with both sides enjoying spells of possession. There were only a few half chances before a moment of magic from ex Hyde player Manasse Mampala which gave Marine the lead on 35 minutes. He found himself with time on the ball around 35 yards from goal, and spotted Hyde keeper Sam Waller was slightly off his line so unleashed a shot which went right into the top corner.
Hyde’s task was made harder going into the break as they were reduced to 10 men as captain Brad Roscoe received a second yellow card. His first on 29 minutes for a foul on Sol Solomon was followed by another on 45 minutes for protesting to the referee. He would argue as captain he is allowed to speak to the referee but was over the top and had an early finish to his game.
Marine doubled their lead just after the break as Ryan White was caught on the ball and Marine pounced. Finlay Sinclair Smith was found on the edge of the box and unleashed a great strike into the top corner to give Sam Waller no chance. Despite another early set back Hyde responded well and if not for some good saves by Felix Goddard they could have found a replay.
