Marine (H) Match Preview
After a tough week on the road with back-to-back 2-0 defeats away to Bamber Bridge and Radcliffe, the Tigers return to the Project Solar Stadium for the first of two home games this week as we host Marine, looking for our first win of the season. Nick Spooner wants improved home form this campaign so will be looking to build on the 1-1 opening day draw against Guiseley.
The opposition
Like ourselves, Marine narrowly missed out on a play off spot last season and manager Neil Young, formerly of Chester & Stockport, made changes to his squad to push on again this season. Popular goalkeeper Bayleigh Passant was replaced with Blackburn loanee Felix Goddard, who was impressive on loan at Bamber Bridge last season. Also joining from Bamber Bridge is winger Finlay Sinclair Smith who was named as young player of the season in this division last year.
There are 3 ex Hyde players in the Marine squad. Manasse Mampala, who scored a brace for the Tigers in the last meeting between the two sides – the 4-0 win over Marine towards the end of last season, made the switch in the summer. Also joining Marine is striker, former loanee Will Russ from Fleetwood and central midfielder Louis White, who was a Hyde player under Dave McGurk.
Marine have started the season with a 0-0 away draw at Gainsborough, followed by a 5-1 home victory over FC United, and then a 3-1 defeat at home to Whitby on Saturday. They sit in 8th position in the league table, 11 places but only 3 points ahead of Hyde, showing how tight the league is in these early stages.
