Under 21s Earn A Draw

Hyde United FC V’s Radcliffe Borough

It was a lovely sunny morning down at the Project Solar Stadium as Hyde welcomed Radcliffe. With both teams winning their initial fixture it was always going to be a close encounter.

Hyde made a number of changes following their initial fixture and debuts were given to 4 new lads.

The game started slowly with both teams passing the ball around well with little creativity in the final third. It wasn’t until the 37th minute when the adventurous centre half Jack Strong broke down the Radcliffe left hand side before an excellent save from the Radcliffe keeper prevented the ball nestling in the bottom left hand corner.

The second half was very different. After a number of changes Hyde quickly got on the front foot and after a battle in the middle of the park, skipper Brad Page released debutant Finlay Hampson who calmly slotted home to give Hyde a deserved 1-0 lead.

This brought Radcliffe to life and they continued to exert pressure on Hyde, which finally paid off after 2 defensive mistakes gave Radcliffe a deserved lead.

Hyde bounced back and after Jordan Conway was denied a penalty, they went straight back on the attack and the skipper was pulled down. Brad Page stepped up and slotted home the penalty. Big character shown by the lads a deserved draw.

The new manager will be in charge for his first game this coming Saturday at Morpeth in the FA Cup.

We would like to welcome Jim to the club.

We have received a considerable number of quality applications for the position of First Team Manager. These are in the process of being reviewed and we intend to commence interviews early next week.

John McCombe has kindly offered to continue with managing the First Team for the next 2 matches – Home v FC United (Saturday) & Away v Mickleover (Bank Holiday Monday) – and we would hope to have a new manager in place in good time for the FA Cup tie at Morpeth on 4th September.

An announcement will be made as soon as any appointment is agreed and will only be made via official Club media.

Hyde United Board of Directors

Fogerty Signs His First Contract

Following in the footsteps of Paddy Lane, the latest Academy success, Cameron Fogerty, signs terms with the football club today.

Cameron, along with Carter Waters, got his call up from the Academy to the first team last season but with the season cut short by COVID, he didn’t get a chance to feature in any games. But has featured in all four games this season, once as unused sub, an appearance from the bench and featured in the starting eleven in the last two games.

He has impressed enough in his performances to secure a contact with the Tigers.

Dave McGurk Departs Hyde United

It is with great regret that the Hyde United Board has accepted the resignation of Dave McGurk as  First Team Manager for personal and family reasons.

David joined the Club as Assistant to Darren Kelly in the Summer of 2016 and both enjoyed success with the memorable FA Cup run to the First Round proper and the TV match with MK Dons and culminating with promotion at the end of that 2017/218 season.

Following a management reshuffle, David took over as First Team Manager in the Summer of 2019 and guided the Club to both the NPL Cup and Cheshire Senior Cup Semi-Finals before the Covid outbreak then nullified the season.

David has prepared a personal statement as follows;-

It’s been an emotional couple of days as I’ve said my goodbyes to staff, players and directors. I feel it’s time to hand over the role as manager to someone else and I decided this before the game on Saturday at Matlock.  It’s a decision I needed to make for myself and my family.

Being manager of a part time club is a very hard job. I’ve loved every minute but the last few months have proved really difficult to get a work/life/family balance. I simply can’t put the time or energy into the job to meet the demands that I expect of myself as a manager. I plan to take a couple of months with my family to recharge and I’ll come back into football with a new challenge at some point.

As assistant manager with Daz we created some great memories with promotion and the FA Cup run. I never got to complete a season as manager with Covid hitting but what the players did in my first year was incredible with the budget we had. We were gutted when it ended as we were flying in the league and had the two semi finals still to play. There’s a great group of lads there now and I’m sure the first win will come this week and there will be many more from there.

There are too many individual people to thank, I hope they all know who they are. In particular though my staff have been everything I could wish for in terms of their roles and support. The directors and volunteers, what you do at this football club to keep it running is amazing. The fans….. as a first time manager i needed your support from the off and I got it. Thank you.

It’s been a brilliant 5 years of my life and I now wish Hyde and everyone associated with the club the very best of luck going forward. I’ve made a lot of friends there and I’ll be down as soon as I get the opportunity.

Take care,

David

The Board of Hyde United wish to place on record our sincere thanks for all David’s hard work over the past 5 years and we certainly wish him well now and in the future.

John McCombe has agreed to take charge of First Team affairs in the short term and will be in charge for the Home match tomorrow (Tuesday 24th) v Grantham Town

Under 21s Win First Game Of The Season

After a summer of building and trialling it was great to start the season (a little earlier than expected) with a home game versus local rivals Ashton United.

After a strong opening 10 minutes from Hyde they took the lead from Jordan Conway, a bouncing ball in the penalty area following a Hyde Corner was despatched into the bottom corner.

This brought Ashton alive and for the remainder of this first half they dominated possession and quickly equalised, sloppy defending from Hyde allowed Ashton to equalise and then following some confusion in the Hyde penalty area,. Ashton took the lead and went into half time in a positive position.

Hyde came to life after the break and created a number of chances, then in the 59th minute, Ashton broke away and unfortunately this lead to the Hyde goalkeeper being dismissed for a professional foul.

The change of shape worked well for Hyde and the old cliché that its difficult to play against 10 men came true.

Hyde dominated possession from this point and Luke Toner pounced on a back pass that was a little short and brought Hyde level.  This was far from the end of the story and up stepped Brian Makela to centre stage, 2 tremendous individual pieces of genius with unforgettable strikes put Hyde 4-2 up with 5 minutes to play.

It was then just left to the hard work of the outfield boys and a number of good saves from the stand in keeper Will Heathcote to keep the score as it was.

A well deserved win for Hyde following a battling second half.

Naming Rights Granted To Solar Energy Company As Part Of Three-Year Sponsorship Deal

8Today marks an historic day for the football club, as we are delighted to announce our first ever stadium sponsor.
Project Solar UK will today begin a 3 year deal sponsorship deal as the main club sponsor.

The stadium will officially be renamed as The Project Solar UK Stadium.

New signage is currently being installed as we continue to completely redevelop the club.

Project Solar UK are the largest and most experienced installer of Solar panels across the UK, providing solar energy solutions for residential and commercial clients. This month the company celebrate their 10th Year anniversary.
With over 35,000 customers. Project Solar UK already have a big presence in the local community, sponsoring other football and sports projects including grass roots, fun days and raising money for local charities such as St Ann’s Hospice

The company has 2 central offices, one based just around the corner in Reddish Stockport which employs over 100 local staff and provides work for many self-employed contractors across the Northwest.
The main HQ is based in Burton-on-Trent. Combined the offices employ over 250 staff and 200 self-employed / contracted workers.

Solar Panels generate electricity by collecting energy that is generated during the day. The energy is converted into useable current with an invertor, the same as the electricity that is provided by the national grid.

Customers can save thousands of pounds as the Solar panels come with a lifetime warranty. New Solar battery options provide customers with other incomes and savings as they can trade energy at peak times. Project Solar UK will provide any home owners with a free home energy assessment to see if Solar panels will be suitable for your home.

Head over to the company’s website, https://www.projectsolaruk.com/, and take a look at the products and services they provide.
Today, Tom Armstrong and Ben Thorp, partners in the business, came to visit the club.

Tom Armstrong told us, “Living locally, I have always kept an eye on the Tigers’ progress as well as my sons playing in the youth teams. I heard Hyde United was looking for some support during and after Covid, after playing only around 8 games last season. After a brief visit I was so impressed with the youth development side of the club and the first team’s ambitious plans, we decided to have further discussions on how we could work together. Hyde United FC has a great community spirit, run by a board that really cares about the fans and local community. I am delighted our company can be involved in this long term project”.

Ben Thorp added, “We would like to thank the club’s board members and fans for this opportunity. We’re looking forward to supporting the club over the years and building on the success of the club base.”

Simon Peat, who founded Project Solar, added “We employ so many people locally that this sponsorship is mutually beneficial. It’s a great way to mark our 10-year anniversary.”

We look forward to working closely with Project Solar UK in a partnership that will be beneficial to both parties and we welcome them to the home of the Tigers.

The past 18 months have been difficult for many companies, and finding sponsorship on this level is hard to come by. So, great credit is due to those at the football club who helped to broker this deal and put in the work to get it over the line.
