A first home pre-season friendly saw the Tigers take on newly promoted National League side AFC Fylde at The Project Solar Stadium in a game filled with action with the newly crowned National League North Champions running out comfortable winners.
The start of the match saw both teams having an even share of possession with a few sights of goal. This changed in the 14th minute when Tom Whelan scored from close range to put the visitors ahead.
Around the 30th minute mark, the away side had a flurry of chances, none of which were converted; yet there were emerging signs of Hyde growing into the game.
This culminated in a series of efforts for the Tigers. A free kick in minute 34 was narrowly missed before several over chances went astray.
On the stroke of half time however, Cedric Main doubled Fylde’s lead, slotting home a pass flashed across the face of goal.
Many changes were made for the visitors, with 9 substitutions being made at half time. None for the home side.
The second half started similarly to the first, with both teams looking positive. A curled effort for Fylde was met by a wonderous save from Jordan Eastham in the 55th minute, with the resulting corner being cleared away.
Hyde managed to pull a goal back from the following passage of play, as James Kirby lobbed the goalkeeper, who was caught off his line, from outside the box.
Five changes then came from the Tigers, several trialists, Edy Maieco, Mo Wassa, and Tom Clare replacing some tired legs across the field.
The goal shifted momentum in the home side’s favour, with Hyde controlling the play either side of the second hydration break, their efforts building to a headed effort that whistled ever so slightly wide of the post.
In the 74th minute though, Fylde managed another goal; Aidan Wainwright pounced on a wayward header in the Hyde defence, striking it off the crossbar and in.
