Squad Update

Following on from the announcement that Michael Clegg and his backroom staff have committed for the 2026/27 season we can provide supporters with further updates regarding the playing squad.

We are delighted to announce that Will Hall, Shakeel Jones-Griffiths and Edy Maieco have all agreed terms for the new season.

They join Jack Redshaw, Harry Ditchfield and Tom Pratt who were already signed on for next season.

Sadly, Matt Fearnley will be leaving this summer to pursue a new challenge with another club. Matt was offered terms for next season but leaves with our best wishes and the upmost respect and we thank him for his valuable contributions with us.

Fearns recently passed 150 appearances for the Tigers, scoring 29 goals, and made the most appearances of any player of last season’s squad in all competitions.

The gaffer Michael Clegg commented ”I am delighted to retain Will, Shak and Edy who all contributed a lot since I walked through the door. It’s great to get that business done and dusted quickly”.

On the departure of Matt Fearnley – ”I am really sad to lose Fearns, he’s left on really good terms. He just wanted a new challenge which I respect him for. He’s a great guy and his effort and commitment for this football club in the time he has been
here has been top class which I thank him for.”

Further squad updates will be communicated once available.

Election of Directors
The constitution of Hyde United Community Association Football Club Limited states that
directors shall serve for three years, and that one third of the directors commencing with the
longest serving shall retire at each Annual General Meeting.

Following the resignation of Tony Spencer during the year, there are currently 11 directors on
the Board, the maximum allowed by the Rules being 12.  Three directors are therefore
required to retire this year and offer themselves for re-election if they so wish.

The directors retiring at this year’s AGM are:
Andrew Deacon – Director – Hyde United Tigers Club liaison
Angela Harley – Director – Hyde United Juniors liaison
Daniel Seddon – Marketing Director

The retiring directors have indicated their willingness to stand for re-election.
With the exception of the roles of Chairman and Treasurer, which are elected by the Board
of Directors following the AGM, the club’s policy is that directors should be elected to fulfil
specific roles within the club. The roles currently to be filled are therefore those held by the
retiring directors.

There is also a vacancy on the board for an IT Director, the duties of whom were previously
carried out by Tony Spencer. The position involves maintaining the club’s IT infrastructure,
website, and other technical aspects.

The Board has received a nomination for this position for Gareth Taylor.

Should anyone else wish to stand for election as a director, your nomination, proposed and
seconded by CBS members, should be forwarded to office@hydeunited.co.uk,  not later
than 5.00 p.m. on 22nd April 2026, and include the following:

  • The position you wish to stand for
  • Why you think you are best suited for the position
  • Any skills and qualifications you have that would make you a good fit for the position

Successful appointees will be required to comply with the Football Association’s Fit and
Proper Persons regulations, which can be downloaded here.

In the event that further nominations are received, a ballot will be required.

As Hyde United Community Association Football Club Limited (the CBS) holds 100% of the
voting A shares in Hyde United Association Football Club Limited (the football club),
directorships in the CBS will be mirrored in the football club.
