Recap

An action packed opening game of the season at the Project Solar Stadium saw Hyde United defeat Lancaster by one goal to nil.

Surprisingly the only goal of the game came in the second minute. Jack Redshaw got down to the byline on the left-hand side of the box and squared the ball along the six-yard box for the onrushing Jordan Scanlon who got the final touch to give the Tigers the lead.

Hyde, with a great passing move, should have been two up in the 12th minute as Tom Pratt crossed the ball low across the six-yard box but no Hyde player could get on the end of it.

The home team started the second half just as brightly as the first and should have doubled their lead with only two minutes gone as Matt Fearnley took kindly to a mix up in the Lancaster defence, finding himself one on one with Brad Kelly but went for power over placement and Kelly made the save.

For all Hyde’s missed opportunities this allowed the away side to grow in belief and in turn create chances of their own as the home crowd grew nervous. However, Hyde stood firm, with some strong blocks in the box by multiple defenders and some brave goalkeeping from Yusuf Mersin to seal the first three points of the season.
