Antoine signs new contract

Antoine Makoli has signed a new contract to stay at the Tigers for the foreseeable future.

Antoine re-signed for a second spell in the summer after taking a year out and according to outgoing manager had found ”his love for the game again”.

Antoine has scored three goals so far including two against tomorrow’s opponents Whitby Town.

Antoine is sponsored by Lucy and Emily Rivett.

Welcome back Harry Bunn

The Board have invited applications for the vacant managerial position.

In the interim, Martin Coyne has invited Harry Bunn to join him in the dugout, with club captain Jack Redshaw as player coach. As a player, Harry needs no introduction, having been with us until January this year when he left and joined Avro, but he has vast football league experience and is keen to progress a coaching career. We wish them well in the coming fixtures

Club Statement

The Board of Hyde United can announce we have reluctantly received the resignation of First Team Manager Nick Spooner with immediate effect.

This news came as a shock to the board and Nick wanted to express his gratitude for being given the opportunity to manage the club in his first senior management role.

Also leaving the club with immediate effect is First Team Coach Gavin McCann.

Nick joined the club in February 2022 and successfully saved the Tigers from relegation before embarking on two successive seasons with sixth place finishes, narrowly missing out on the play offs on both occasions.

Under Nick’s tenure we lifted our first Cheshire Senior Cup title for twenty-seven years in 2024 with the memorable victory over Crewe Alexandra and also reached two Manchester Premier Cup Finals.

Nick wished to comment “It’s been an absolute privilege to manage this football club over the last number of years. I’ve appreciated all the backing from the board and the supporters from the first minute. We have had some great times however; it’s the right moment for me to step back and give the opportunity to someone else to take the team forward. I wish everyone at the football club all the best”.

The club regret that their tenure here has come to an end and would like to thank Nick and Gavin for all of their hard work over the past three and a half years and wish them all the best for the future in whatever comes next. They will always be welcomed back at the Project Solar Stadium.

In the interim, the First Team will be led by Martin Coyne, Chris Shaw, and First Team captain Jack Redshaw.

New signing – Josh Shaw

We have added left back Josh Shaw to the squad, Josh made his debut in the 2-2 draw at home to Prescot Cables.

Josh made 12 appearances on loan for Marine in the National League North last season.

Meanwhile leaving us is Saj Elhassan, Saj picked up an injury in pre-season and with game time being limited it was felt best to part ways.

We wish Saj well.

Festus Cheer

We are delighted to announce the signing of central defender Festus Arthur.

German born Festus started his professional career at Stockport County making just 31 appearances before moving to Championship side Hull City for an undisclosed fee. Loan moves to Barrow and FC Halifax soon followed before a permanent move to the Yorkshire side followed in 2023.  Festus became a fans favourite at the Shay, last season saw a loan move to Southport as he recovered from injury, where he made 27 appearances.

Nick Spooner said on the move, ”Festus has been training with us, he’s had his injury problems over the last season or so, so now we’re giving him a platform to get some minutes and he’s a leader who will help us massively”
