Player Update

Over the past week the Tigers have made 2 new signings, you would have seen one in action last week in the 4-1 win at home to Bamber Bridge. That was Goalkeeper Sam French, signing prior to the Bamber Bridge game on a months loan from Derby County to stand in for the injured Luke Mewitt.

The other signing was made today, defender Tom Dean signs from Clitheroe and will be in the squad for tomorrows away game at Stafford Rangers. He spent 5 years at neighbours Mossley and was part of the Buxton squad last season.

From The Manager;

Tom has been on our radar for a while since his Mossley days. He had successful season in this league last year and played his part in one of the best defences in the league. We are glad to have him on board.

Sam has joined on an initial 1 month loan from Derby while Luke Mewitt gets over his concussion. He was excellent last week against Bamber. He looked assured and he made a big save to keep the scores level.

Club Statement

It is with great regret and reluctance that the Hyde United Board have accepted Darren Kelly’s resignation as Sporting Director.

Darren joined the Club on a permanent basis in the Summer of 2016 and, as First Team Manager, was responsible for steadying and re-building the playing side into a successful one; who can forget the promotion season of 2017/18 and the fantastic FA Cup run to the First round proper, as we hosted the live FA Cup draw and ended up with the plum BBC match v MK Dons.

As well as his technical expertise (a qualified PRO-Licence coach), Darren also left an indelible mark off the pitch, with both officials and supporters alike, due to his strength of personality, character and good humour; after all, not everyone gets their own song!

Darren will be issuing his own statement shortly, but his leaving of Hyde United is purely down to family and logistical reasons.

DK will always be welcome here and we certainly wish him well in whatever he chooses to do in the future.

Match Preview – Manchester Premier Cup

The Tigers welcome FC United of Manchester to Ewen Fields this evening for what will only be the third competitive meeting between the two sides. The first time these two teams met was back in February 2018 in the semi-final of this competition when an early Adam Gilchrist goal was the difference with ‘’The Rebels’’ coming back to Ewen Fields later in the season to beat Trafford in the final on penalty kicks.
After a slow start to the season, Neil Reynolds’s side have hauled themselves up to fifth place in the league table, thanks in part to the goals of Tunde Owalabi. Earlier in the season the Tigers won in their first ever trip to Broadhurst Park in a dramatic game where two first half goals from Dan O-Brien and Liam Tongue gave us a first half lead. Despite an onslaught where Regan Linney pulled a goal back it wasn’t enough.
The Tigers have stuttered In recent weeks but an encouraging 2-2 draw at Lancaste on Saturday has brought some optimism back and tonight sees a chance to progress to the semi-final in a competition manager Dave McGurk has expressed a desire of winning.
So get yourself down for what promises to be an entertaining evening of football

We thank Guiseley for allowing us to sign him.

Four Signed In Time For Tomorrows FA Trophy Game

We are delighted to announce we have made 4 signings today, in time for tomorrows FA Trophy game away to Buxton.

With injuries, suspensions and ineligible players the squad would have been very thin tomorrow. So Dave and John have been working hard all week to bring players in.

From the Manager;

We have 9 players out of tomorrow’s game due to suspension, injury and parent clubs not allowing players to play in the trophy. It’s important we strengthened this week and I’m happy with the acquisitions. Once players return we will have some very good competition for places which we have lacked in previous weeks.

Players signed today are, midfielders Jordan Wynne and Jack Gibney, forward Chris Sharp and defender James Neild.

From the Manager;

James Nield comes in on dual reg from Curzon and will provide defensive cover in all positions. He’s someone we spoke to in pre-season but he was trying to stay in the pro game at the time and took up an offer of a trial with Barnsley. He’s athletic, aggressive and technically very good.

Jordan Wynne has signed and we are looking to get him back to the player he was at Prescott Cables. He come to our attention the year we came up as he was the best player on the pitch against us. He’s not settled anywhere since but there is a player in there and I’m hoping we can help him develop with the environment here. If we get him to that level then then I’m sure he will go onto a higher level of football.

Jack Gibney, who plays for the reserves has signed forms and will be in the squad tomorrow. Jack has a great attitude and he will excite the fans with the pace he has. He’s been playing at Burscough so is up to speed with his match fitness.

Chris fits the profile of the striker we have been looking for since the beginning of the season. He’s a good player in his own right but I think he will bring the best out of the forward players around him. Some of our forward play has been brilliant at times this year and Chris now brings another option to use throughout the season.

Player News

Over the past week there have been some player movements.

Martyn Woolford and Dan O’Brien have departed and we have recently signed Cyril Owolabi.

From manager Dave McGurk

We would like to wish Martyn Woolford and Danny O’Brien the best of luck as they move on.

Boston made a 7 day approach for Wooly and he has agreed terms with them. We were always aware he would have interest higher up the ladder and we thank him for his work with us.

Danny has joined Atherton Collieries. He got off to a flying start with us and he’s a player I would of loved to have kept Understandably he wants to be playing games and Atherton have been long term admirers of him.

Cyril Owolabi has joined us on non contract terms. He’s been training and playing with the reserves and we invited him into the first team set up and he’s done well over the last 2 weeks in training. Cyril is a centre midfielder who’s been playing at university in the US.

There are several offers out on players at the moment. We are working in a small and competitive market where it takes a lot of work in to get the players who fit into the team and dressing room . The fans can be assured that we are working around the clock to bring the players in to boost the squad.
