MANarama is back in aid of Prostate Cancer UK

For the second successive October, Non-League football obsessives Vanarama are rebranding to MANarama – and once again we want to help raise bucket loads of money for a very worthy cause.

Last year, Vanarama – the official vehicle leasing partner of the BetVictor Northern Premier League – teamed up with Prostate Cancer UK and the country’s Non-League clubs to raise a fantastic £150,000 to help the fight.

We were proud to play a part and thanks to so many people it was a job well done, but there’s one issue – we soon remembered that the disease kills one man every 45 minutes in the UK.

So we couldn’t just sit back a year on think we’ve done our bit. Far from it in fact!

We’re back with a six-week campaign and we’ve got a rather famous face to help spread the message as we try to raise awareness as well as much-needed money.

Film star and former Non-League footballer Vinnie Jones’ life has been touched by cancer recently and it’s something he was desperate to put his name to.

Now he is urging ‘proper football clubs’ and ‘proper supporters’ to raise ‘proper money’ – you can’t say no to Vinnie, right?!

He said: “I am beyond proud to back this MANarama campaign. It combines two things which are so important to me; grass-roots football and fighting cancer. I started playing football in Non-League so I know that these clubs are at the heart of local communities.

“I don’t need to explain why the fight against cancer is so important for me.

“Non-League football is proper football and I’d urge all Non-League clubs and all the proper supporters out there to raise some proper money for this brilliant cause.”

So how can you help?

We need you! So get involved with the MANarama campaign as we try to combat Prostate Cancer together.

New Players Announcement

We are delighted to announce 3 new additions to the squad.

Goal Keeper Aidan Winterbottom; Aidan was reserve keeper for Stalybridge, and stood in for the first team keeper and also played outfield on 2 occasions.

“Aidan comes in to provide cover should anything happen to Luke. James Hodges and Thierry Lewis are both currently injured so we have had to move to make sure we are not left short.” – Dave McGurk

Defender Luis Morrison; Luis has had spells at Grays, Dorking, Buxton, Alfreton Town, Nuneaton Town and most recently Stratford Town.

“Luis joins us and is available for tomorrow evening. He is a player with a real presence and is another one who has impressed in training. He’s vocal and will add strength and leadership down the spine of the team.” – Dave McGurk

Forward Michael Elstone; Michael and has had spells at Marine, Glossop North End and most recently Curzon Ashton. He was also involved in the youth teams at Crewe Alexandra, Bangor City and Fulham.

“Michael has been training with us leaving Curzon and he has impressed during that time with us. He’s looked sharp and should be able to come in and hit the ground running.” – Dave McGurk

Hyde United – Centenary of re-formation Sept 20th 1919

Today, September 20th, marks the centenary of football returning to the town of Hyde after the First World War. It was decided to bring back Hyde FC as a reformed, new club, Hyde United.
That first competitive match of the 1919/20 season was at Home to Glossop Reserves in the Lancashire & Cheshire Federation League. It was played at the adjacent Townend Street pitch off Lumn Road; Ewen Fields was used for allotments during WW1 and still out of action, though the Club would return there the following year.
Hyde United played in black & white stripes that day but did change back to the pre-WWI and now familiar red shirts in 1927. The match ended in a 1-1 draw and the line-up was – CARR, FIRTH, SWINDELLS, CARSON, HADFIELD, KNOWLES, GALLEY, ALDRED, ORFORD, WILKINSON, SMITH – we know Smith scored the Hyde goal and they ended the season as runners-up in the division before joining the Manchester League for the following season.
You can read more about the history of Hyde United in the 4 volumes written by Club Historian, Mike Pavasovic. Enquiries can be made to the Club at e-mail – office@hydeunited.co.uk

Bailey Gooda Departs

Yesterday Bailey departed Hyde and signed for Matlock Town.

From the Manager;

“We are disappointed about Bailey leaving. We wanted him to stay and I tried to persuade him to but he got a very good offer from Matlock and is going to go straight into their first team. I can?t guarantee him or anyone first team football week in week out. It happens in football, we don’t want to lose any player from the squad but we are at the bottom of the food chain in this league. Bailey is a great kid and a good player and we wish him the best of luck at Matlock. We will look to replace him either before Saturday or at some point next week.”
