Morpeth Match Preview

Morpeth Match Preview

After 10 days since out last outing, the Tigers return to action at the Project Solar Stadium this Saturday as we welcome Morpeth Town who make the journey down from the North East.

Last time out

Our last game was last Tuesday as we lost 3-2 at Matlock. Lewis Alessandra put us into an early lead, before the league’s top scorer Jonathan Margetts added to his impressive scoring tally with a first half hatrick. Hyde dominated the second half and got a goal back through Jack Redshaw but couldn’t force the equaliser. Our last home game was a 3-0 victory over Marske United two weeks ago.

Morpeth were 2-1 winners at home to Ilkeston Town, with Sam Hodgson scoring both goals. Morpeth’s last away game was a 3-0 victory at Stafford Rangers two weeks ago.

The visitors

Manager Craig Lynch has been in charge since September 2021, but has been on the coaching staff since 2018. During his first season in charge they equalled their best ever run in both the FA Cup and FA Trophy, and have finished 10th and 17th in the last 2 league campaigns.

Key threats to look out for are Andrew Johnson and Jack Foalle, who are both regular goal scorers at this level, and have experienced defenders in Jeff Henderson and goalkeeper Dan Lowson, who have been at the club for a number of years.

Our squad

Speaking after the Matlock game, Nick Spooner was happy to have the 10-day break in fixtures and will be hopeful to have some players back for the game from injury.

Nick will also be looking to be the first Hyde manager to beat Morpeth, as in our eight games against them in all competitions we have drawn three and lost five!
