Hyde United v South Shields Match Preview

Hyde United v South Shields Match Preview

Here is all the information you need to know ahead of Saturday’s game against South Shields.

After 3 weekends on the road we are finally back at the Project Solar Stadium as we host league leaders South Shields. A mixed bag of results on the road, with one win, one draw and one defeat. Our last game against South Shields was a 1-0 win back on a Tuesday night in November when we went to the top of the table thanks to Brad Roscoe’s winner. Up until Tuesday night we were the only team to win at the First Cloud Arena in the league all season. Both sides have plenty to play for as we approach this game, so it promises to be a cracker.

How we are shaping up
It’s a tight race for the play offs in the NPL premier division, so every game is crucial at this stage of the season, we have been up there all season so will be looking to keep our spot in the play offs. Manager Nick Spooner was disappointed with the 1-0 defeat at Radcliffe last weekend so will be looking for a positive performance from the lads this weekend. We will be glad to have captain Brad Roscoe & Callum Spooner back from suspension to bolster the ranks. Striker Will Russ is still to be assessed with his recent ankle injury.

A look at the visitors
Since our victory in November, the tables have turned and Kevin Phillips side have been on an impressive run and stormed to the top of the table, leaving the chasing pack behind. Their form has dipped recently, however, with only two wins in their last seven, albeit with only the one recent defeat to FC United. The Mariners have the second-best away record in the league with 32 points from their 17 trips on the road. Phillips will be looking for a reaction after their defeat on Tuesday night, so it promises to be a great game.

Players to Watch
In a side packed with quality and experience, the visitors have shared the goals around this season. Their top scorer is Darius Osei with 14 goals. Recent super sub is Jordy Mongoy who likes to make an impact off the bench when called upon, so will be one to look out for if the game gets tight.
