Highly rated youngster joins on loan

We have secured the loan signing of Tom Iorpenda until the end of the season.

The 17-Year-Old attacking midfielder is highly rated and signed his first professional contract at the Terriers last summer and has already progressed up to the B team.

Tom is in the squad for the game against South Shields and we look forward to seeing him in action.

Hyde United v South Shields Match Preview

Here is all the information you need to know ahead of Saturday’s game against South Shields.

After 3 weekends on the road we are finally back at the Project Solar Stadium as we host league leaders South Shields. A mixed bag of results on the road, with one win, one draw and one defeat. Our last game against South Shields was a 1-0 win back on a Tuesday night in November when we went to the top of the table thanks to Brad Roscoe’s winner. Up until Tuesday night we were the only team to win at the First Cloud Arena in the league all season. Both sides have plenty to play for as we approach this game, so it promises to be a cracker.

How we are shaping up
It’s a tight race for the play offs in the NPL premier division, so every game is crucial at this stage of the season, we have been up there all season so will be looking to keep our spot in the play offs. Manager Nick Spooner was disappointed with the 1-0 defeat at Radcliffe last weekend so will be looking for a positive performance from the lads this weekend. We will be glad to have captain Brad Roscoe & Callum Spooner back from suspension to bolster the ranks. Striker Will Russ is still to be assessed with his recent ankle injury.

A look at the visitors
Since our victory in November, the tables have turned and Kevin Phillips side have been on an impressive run and stormed to the top of the table, leaving the chasing pack behind. Their form has dipped recently, however, with only two wins in their last seven, albeit with only the one recent defeat to FC United. The Mariners have the second-best away record in the league with 32 points from their 17 trips on the road. Phillips will be looking for a reaction after their defeat on Tuesday night, so it promises to be a great game.

Players to Watch
In a side packed with quality and experience, the visitors have shared the goals around this season. Their top scorer is Darius Osei with 14 goals. Recent super sub is Jordy Mongoy who likes to make an impact off the bench when called upon, so will be one to look out for if the game gets tight.

Former Chairman Allan Kenyon

It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of former Chairman, Director, long term sponsor and supporter, Allan Kenyon.  Allan passed away in hospital on Sunday morning after a brave battle with Motor Neurone Disease.

Allan was only a director for a short time, from March 2011 to September 2012, but oversaw the
appointment of Gary Lowe as manager, and one of the most successful seasons in the club’s history, culminating in promotion to what is now the National League.

Allan and his wife Dee have been Hyde United supporters for many years, and sponsored the club on many occasions, both personally and through their company ATS Plumbing and Heating.  They were also invaluable in assisting with our board room hospitality, and instrumental in forging good relations with both Manchester United and Manchester City when their reserve teams used our facilities.

Allan was diagnosed with this dreadful disease about 18 months ago, and it has been heartbreaking to see it taking its toll on his health.

He still continued to support the club, and was able to attend some home games until recently.

We send our condolences to Dee, Vicky and Brad and the Kenyon family, who are all in our thoughts at this time.

Lord Tom Pendry

The Hyde United Board were saddened to learn of the recent passing of Lord Tom Pendry.
He was Labour MP for Hyde and Stalybridge from 1970 to 2001, prior to being honoured with a life peerage.
Although not necessarily made public, Tom was a great help to Hyde United on a number of occasions over the years, particularly in smoothing the waters regarding matters of ground development.
More recently, we were delighted to welcome Tom as guest in the Pete O’Brien Lounge for our Boxing Day derby with Stalybridge Celtic.
We send our sincere condolences to his children, Dominic and Fiona

One loan in and one renewal

We have signed Dane McCullough on a loan until the end of the season from Burnley.  Dane has come in due to suspensions in defence and the 19-year-old will gain valuable experience at the Project Solar Stadium and made his debut in the 1-1 draw at Matlock Town on Saturday.

Having initially joined the Clarets from Northern Irish side Portadown in August 2020, McCullough extended his scholarship for a third season in the summer of 2022.

McCullough, who has also represented Northern Ireland at various youth levels,  playing alongside former Tiger, Paddy Lane in the Northern Ireland set up.  He has also played first-team football for Portadown making his debut aged just 15.

He said  ”When the opportunity to come here on loan came up, it really appealed to me.  I loved my time at Portadown getting experience and I’m enjoying the experience at Burnley but now it’s time to play mens football again”

The club have also extended the loan of Will Russ, from Fleetwood Town, until the end of the season, Will has come in and scored five goals in seven matches in his month with us.

Manager Nick Spooner said ” We’re delighted to extend Will’s loan he’s been a great signing for us, and we look forward to welcoming him back into the squad against Nantwich Town”

Message from Hyde United Board of Directors

Following the FA’s recent letter to all Clubs regarding discriminatory behaviour (copy attached), the Board wish to remind all supporters that they should conduct themselves in a proper manner when attending matches either Home or Away.

The FA class each Club as responsible for it’s supporters regardless of venue, so it’s important that all supporters realise this and represent the Club and themselves in a respectful manner.

The Board absolutely encourages positive support, but, as with certain previous instances, if any individual(s) are found guilty of misconduct at matches and bringing the Club into disrepute, we will have no hesitation in taking the strongest action, including the issue of banning orders
