Radcliffe Match Report

A dominant second half performance saw Hyde United see off the league leaders Radcliffe at the Project Solar Stadium

A game in which on form both teams looked evenly matched, however the league table suggested otherwise as Radcliffe sat top and The Tigers just outside the play offs.

A positive start from Hyde saw them get the first chance of the game after five minutes as a Harry Ditchfield long throw bounced around in the area eventually finding Will Russ who’s effort was cleared off the line by Olly Thornley.

Radcliffe came into the game on 15 minutes as, former Curzon Ashton man, Josh Hancock struck a beautiful half volley that just whistled past Sam Waller’s left hand post.

A brilliant counter attacking move by The Tigers saw them open the scoring, Harry Ditchfield lai a lovely ball through to Will Russ who finished well with his right foot across the keeper to put them a goal up on 19 minutes.

Just six minutes later Jamie Morgan’s header put Radcliffe back on level terms. A cross from the right found Jordan Hulme and his outside of the foot cross found Morgan who’s header found the back of Waller’s net.

The next chance fell to the Tigers again as Harry Bunn’s weighted ball down the right from Will Russ found him and he crossed low back for Russ but his effort was blocked by Mateusz Hewlet in the Radcliffe goal.

Five minutes to go in the first half Hyde gave the ball away to Jordan Hulme on the edge of the box and he somehow found half a yard to get his shot off and a good save by Waller denied Radcliffe their second.

The first chance of the second half fell to substitute Antoine Makoli after just 12 minutes of the second period but his shot was saved well by Hewitt in the Radcliffe goal.

Hyde continued to apply pressure and on the 68th minute that pressure paid off as the ball fell to Callum Spooner on the edge of the box and he fired the ball down to Hewitt’s right and into the back of the net.

Radcliffe had almost an instantaneous chance that saw Hulme’s plethora of shots eventually scrambled off the line by Brad Roscoe.

After soaking up the Radcliffe pressure well, Hyde won a free kick on the right hand side that Redshaw whipped into the back post where Brad Roscoe was waiting to head back across goal for second half substitute Lewis Alesandra to tap home and wrap up the three points for The Tigers.

Hyde saw out the rest of the game comfortably to give manager a Nick Spooner an early Christmas present.
