Under 21s Win First Game Of The Season

Under 21s Win First Game Of The Season

August 22, 2021

After a summer of building and trialling it was great to start the season (a little earlier than expected) with a home game versus local rivals Ashton United.

After a strong opening 10 minutes from Hyde they took the lead from Jordan Conway, a bouncing ball in the penalty area following a Hyde Corner was despatched into the bottom corner.

This brought Ashton alive and for the remainder of this first half they dominated possession and quickly equalised, sloppy defending from Hyde allowed Ashton to equalise and then following some confusion in the Hyde penalty area,. Ashton took the lead and went into half time in a positive position.

Hyde came to life after the break and created a number of chances, then in the 59th minute, Ashton broke away and unfortunately this lead to the Hyde goalkeeper being dismissed for a professional foul.

The change of shape worked well for Hyde and the old cliché that its difficult to play against 10 men came true.

Hyde dominated possession from this point and Luke Toner pounced on a back pass that was a little short and brought Hyde level.  This was far from the end of the story and up stepped Brian Makela to centre stage, 2 tremendous individual pieces of genius with unforgettable strikes put Hyde 4-2 up with 5 minutes to play.

It was then just left to the hard work of the outfield boys and a number of good saves from the stand in keeper Will Heathcote to keep the score as it was.

A well deserved win for Hyde following a battling second half.
