Hyde United FC V’s Radcliffe Borough
It was a lovely sunny morning down at the Project Solar Stadium as Hyde welcomed Radcliffe. With both teams winning their initial fixture it was always going to be a close encounter.
Hyde made a number of changes following their initial fixture and debuts were given to 4 new lads.
The game started slowly with both teams passing the ball around well with little creativity in the final third. It wasn’t until the 37th minute when the adventurous centre half Jack Strong broke down the Radcliffe left hand side before an excellent save from the Radcliffe keeper prevented the ball nestling in the bottom left hand corner.
The second half was very different. After a number of changes Hyde quickly got on the front foot and after a battle in the middle of the park, skipper Brad Page released debutant Finlay Hampson who calmly slotted home to give Hyde a deserved 1-0 lead.
This brought Radcliffe to life and they continued to exert pressure on Hyde, which finally paid off after 2 defensive mistakes gave Radcliffe a deserved lead.
Hyde bounced back and after Jordan Conway was denied a penalty, they went straight back on the attack and the skipper was pulled down. Brad Page stepped up and slotted home the penalty. Big character shown by the lads a deserved draw.
