It was the ‘battle of the tigers’ at the Project Solar Stadium and a real game of two halves, but it was Hyde United who ran out 3-1 winners over Worksop Town.
After an even first 15 minutes of the game, it was one-way traffic as Hyde’s passing and movement was too much for Worksop to handle. Debutant goalkeeper Paul Cooper had a half to forget, as for Hyde’s opener on 17 minutes, he originally saved an effort from Lewis Alessandra but spilled the ball in the box allowing Harry Bunn to follow in and he poked the ball over Cooper to give Hyde the lead.
On 28 minutes, Hyde doubled their lead as Cooper came to collect a long throw by Harry Ditchfield, but lost out to Brad Roscoe. The ball was kept alive in the box by Hyde, and Alessandra produced a great curling strike in the box to find the bottom corner.
After half time Worksop got back into the game on the hour mark, the ball falling to Josh Wilde on the edge of the area, and his first time strike found the bottom corner leaving Hyde keeper Luke Hutchinson with no chance.
As Worksop pushed for an equaliser some brilliant defending kept Hyde in the lead and they sealed the victory in stoppage time through substitute Bailey Thompson.
