Hyde United ran out 2-1 winners over local rivals Ashton United in a fiercely contested Tameside Derby at the Project Solar Stadium. The contrasting form coming into the game was turned on it’s head as the tigers came from behind to seal the victory, thanks for a brace from Liam Tongue.
Ashton had the chance to take the lead from the spot on 25 minutes as Green rushed out and clipped Yonsian. However the goalkeeper redeemed himself as he dived to his left to deny Bentham.
The Robins did take the lead on 37 minutes as they won the ball high up the pitch and the cross came into the box towards Bentham at the far post and he found the back of the net.
The equaliser came on the stroke of half time as Tongue’s deep wide free kick evaded everyone including keeper Martin and went into the far corner.
Hyde took the lead, and all three points on 66 minutes, as Mitchell’s quick feet found the onrushing Tongue who unleashed a thunderous shot from the edge of the box to leave Martin with no chance in the Ashton Goal.
The home side had more opportunities to increase the winning margin but in the end had to settle for a 2-1 victory and move out of the relegation places in the league.
