Recap

Hyde United won the ‘battle of the tigers’ after a 2-0 victory over Worksop Town to jump into 5th and into the play off places.

Worksop started brightly and forced a series of corners in the opening few minutes after Alex Starcenko’s shot was deflected wide by Joel Amado. However, it was Hyde who opened the scoring in the 4th minute as they broke from the last corner.

Amado made a bursting run up the pitch from central defence and the ball found its way to Lewis Thompson. He crossed into the box for the towering Ewan Bange who chested the ball down and found the bottom corner.

Worksop came close to an equaliser on 21 minutes as Starcenko headed goalwards from a Jacob Gratton corner at the near post but could only find the crossbar.

The home side upped the intensity in the second half and controlled the game. Callum Spooner doubled the Hyde lead in the 61st minute after a sensational strike which dipped and swerved and found the top corner leaving Tommy Taylor with no chance.

As Worksop chased the game, Hyde had chances on the counter attack to extend the lead. Taylor produced two smart saves to deny Spooner and Connor Heath late in the game. Worksop have now lost 4 out of their last 5 league games but remain in third place.
