Recap

In one of the few games that survived the freezing temperatures, Hyde United went back to the top of the division after a hard fought 1-0 win over Stafford Rangers.

The first half didn’t see many opportunities for either side at goal. Hyde started the game brighter, winger Manasse Mampala drove forward and unleashed a shot from 25 yards which was parried away from under the blinding sun by Stafford keeper Cameron Belford.

The visitors threat came from the long throw of Tom Tonks. Their best opportunity came on 37 minutes when the throw fell kindly to Saunders who headed over from 3 yards.

The second half continued much like the first, with both sides struggling to keep possession of the ball and both keepers without much to do.

A large crowd of 988 were hoping for a moment of quality to cheer about and it came from Hyde substitute Edy Maieco on 69 minutes. A great pass from Redshaw found the run of Maieco and his excellent first time volley found the bottom corner.

Stafford failed to threaten the Hyde goal and the home side comfortably held on for a valuable three points.
