Recap

Hyde United moved up to 3rd place Northern Premier League after a 2-0 win against Workington, making it 14 games unbeaten and 6 wins in a row for the Tigers.

It was a fast start to the game with both sides having shots saved in the opening two minutes. Harry Ditchfield had a shot punched away by visiting keeper Jim Atkinson, and then Sam Hetherington had a powerful shot held by Hyde keeper Jordan Eastham.

Workington had the better of the chances in the first half as Hetherington was one on one with Eastham on 35 minutes but the goalkeeper pulled off a great save and then Steven Rigg had a header cleared off the line.

Workington were then made to pay for a poor missed opportunity on 42 minutes as Rigg missed an open net from two yards. Hyde punished the error ruthlessly as Lewis Alessandra opened the scoring 40 seconds later as his shot beat Atkinson in the box. Matthew Fearnley then squared across the box for Jack Redshaw to tap home on 45 minutes and the home side were two goals to ahead after they should have been behind just minutes earlier.

Hyde had the earliest chance of the second half as Lewis Alessandra fired a shot wide on 48 minutes to perhaps seal the win more comfortably. Workington had possession of the ball for the majority of the second half but they failed to break Hyde down and the home side were comfortable to see the result out.
