Recap

It was honours even in an enjoyable game of football as Hyde United and Guiseley battled to a 1-1 draw on the opening day of the league season. Two sides with contrasting styles of play nullified each other’s threats well.

Hyde started the game the better of the two sides and Hyde’s short corner routines troubled the visitors, Aaron Fleming came closest on 11 minutes, receiving the ball on the edge of the box, his shot was going goalwards and cleared off the line by Tom Denton.

It was Guiseley who went in at half time ahead, thanks to Jameel Ible’s header on 39 minutes. The centre half headed home a corner at the back post unmarked after Hyde keeper Ritchie Branagan misjudged the delivery.

The home side dominated possession in the second half and their persistence paid off, finding the equaliser just after the hour mark. Callum Spooner won a corner and his delivery into the six-yard box was on a plate for Bailey Thompson who lost his marker and headed past Wade in the Guiseley goal.

Both sides had chances to win the game late on, Gabriel Johnson had a shot saved well by Hyde keeper Branagan. Hyde had pace through winger Antoine Makoli, and he unleashed a fierce shot 2 minutes from time that had Wade rooted in goal but went agonizingly over the bar to keep the game level.
