Hyde United v Whitby Town Match Preview

We are back at the Project Solar UK Stadium on Saturday as we host Whitby Town. It’s a hugely important match with a win the only aim as we look to get back into the play off places. Three defeats in a row have allowed other teams to leapfrog us into the top five but the squad and staff are determined to climb back into the play off spots on Saturday afternoon.

Last Game
The Tigers were narrowly defeated last Saturday at the Giant Axe, falling to a 2-1 defeat against Lancaster City. After going in at half time behind, Arron Fleming brought us level just after the break but Lancaster would go onto win late on in the game.
Whitby were also beaten in their last game 3-0 at home to fellow play off chasing side Marine.
Earlier in the season we drew 1-1 at the Turnbull Ground, a hard-fought point played in poor weather conditions.

Form Guide
Whitby are in mid-table, recovering well in the last few months after a slow start to the league campaign. They are 14th in the table on 47 points, 14 points behind us. In their last 5 games Whitby have 5 points, with 1 win, 2 draws and 2 losses. Scoring 7 goals in this time and conceding 8.
Whitby have played 18 games on the road this season and have 23 points. Their last game away from home was a 2-1 defeat to Bamber Bridge a fortnight ago. They haven’t tasted victory on the road since early February when they beat Stalybridge Celtic.

Players to Watch
Whitby have defender Harrison Beeden and forward Brad Fewster back from suspension. This will be a welcome boost for Whitby as Fewster is their top scorer with 11 goals. Beeden is a key target on set pieces and has also popped up with 5 goals. On recent occasions against us, keeper Shane Bland has produced some excellent saves, and the squad will be under no illusions about the stern test Whitby will propose.

Our Squad
Last week, two of the new signings made their debut, with AJ Leitch-Smith leading the line and Craig Carney having a solid first appearance in midfield.
There are no new injury concerns to report. It remains to be seen whether striker Will Russ will be fit enough to return to the squad. Manager Nick Spooner confirmed last week Will was back in light training after his ankle injury.
