Stockport born James joined Hyde from the Chester Academy, after spending 2 years with them, at the start of the 2017/18 season. For most of the 2017/18 and 2018/19 season he was 2nd choice keeper behind the excellent Peter Crook. In an effort to get him games he joined Tadcaster Albion in November 2018 where he made 10 appearances.

He makes a welcome return to Ewen Fields this season after missing most of last season through an injury gained at the beginning of the 2019/20 season.
