HYDE UNITED FC 4 - 0 ATHERTON COLLIERIES

After the effort needed to overcome Boston on Saturday with only 10 men, you would have forgiven the boys for having heavy legs tonight, but they were outstanding for large parts of this game and deserved the four goals and a clean sheet.

From the whistle, Hyde were at the Atherton back line, and for the opening 10 minutes they really had no answer. Pressing high and forcing Atherton to play long, it seemed like the Tigers had 70/80% possession and it was really no surprise to anyone when the energetic James Burke, won the ball, playing an excellent pass forward to Big Khamsuk who looked up and lobbed the ball forward to Karl Jones who controlled on his chest before curling a right footed shot as he fell past the Atherton keeper. 1-0 Hyde United

Hyde were in complete control, and raided forward at will, but the second goal didn't come, and they relaxed 10 %, dropping off the press and allowing Atherton to get some time on the ball, and to grow in confidence. That wasn't to say that the Tigers ever looked threatened, they just took their foot off the pedal. Dave McGurk urged them from the sideline to step up and get higher up the pitch, and in the final 5 minutes of the half they did this and started to look a threat again.

HT 1-0 HYDE UNITED

Atherton were pleased in the half time dressing room, and confident that they were still in the game, so much so they made a couple of changes to the personnel and the formation at the start of the second half looking to capitalise on the improvements made in the first half.

Unfortunately for Atherton, this change played into the hands of this outstanding Hyde squad, who upped the tempo and exploited the space they now found in the middle of the pitch, allowing them to get forward in support of the front men and to dominate the play.

Ryan Ellison, making a deserved start after an excellent second half display at Boston and looked a threat on the right. He was rewarded when he latched on to a bouncing ball on the edge of the box, smashing it home from 18 yards to double the Tigers lead. A goal which was celebrated by every Hyde player, appreciating as a squad how much hard work Ryan has put into the season which has been largely spent watching from the bench. 2-0 Hyde United

5 minutes later and the crowd of 343 were treated to a possible goal of the season from Big Khamsuk. A Paddy Miller free kick on the half way line was played into the box and headed half clear by the Atherton number 6 where Big collected the ball about 30 yards out, turning to his left before a half Cruyff turn sat the number 4 on the floor and then with a drop of his shoulder and a roll of his foot over the ball he created enough space to allow time to fire a 25 yard strike into the goal from just outside the left hand edge of the Atherton box. 3-0 Hyde United

Chris Churchman made his first team League debut after a long recovery from injury during pre season, and showed some energy and real ability in the centre of the park, and diddy David Brown came on, made some excellent runs in behind the Atherton back four, and was rewarded with a very well taken goal.

FT 4-0 HYDE UNITED FC

The self belief, togetherness and team spirit is evident for all to see. Darren, his back room staff and the squad can all be pleased with their work so far, and a run of 23 games undefeated, equaling a record set in 1887 (130 years) is a proud record. We move on to the Trophy at Cleethorpes Town on Saturday 7th, before Radcliffe Borough at home in the Manchester Cup on Tuesday 10th and then into Q4 of the FA Cup where we will face Scarborough Athletic FC away on Saturday 14th.

If we are 26 games unbeaten after that, then we can really start to dream of a special season.
